Castel del Monte, hunting residence of the emperor Frederick II of Swabia, today World Heritage recognised by UNESCO, has been examined by many researchers, historians, architects, or mere observers (as it usually happens to the most imprtant buildings of the classical antiquity) and they all have dissenting opinions: some consider Castel del Monte a "mere" magnificent building, a masterpiece of style, a comfortable mansion...others consider it a temple of high spirituality, an esoteric book, the maximum knowledge initiation... For sure Castel del Monte is affected by the mythical and all-engaging personality of Frederick II, and at least all scholars agree that the monument not only witnesses the classical patterns of the architectural and sculptural taste of Frederick II, but also a message of universal culture.
